About Oakbrook’s Goals

Below is a list of goals meant to help us choose a direction on which to focus. They lift up what we believe is a God-given vision of our preferred future. These are long-term goals on which we intend to plot short-term, functional goals and a plan of action. The first three are arranged in the order of priority on which we believe we should focus for the immediate future.

Passionate spirituality

We intend to develop a climate of passionate spirituality in our church family by leading and teaching them to make personal and corporate worship, prayer, daily quiet time, and obedience to Christ their highest priorities in life. To this end we encourage every believer at Oakbrook to be in at least one of the following: a discipleship or mentoring relationship; an accountability group; or a
small group.

Community outreach

We intend to reach our community for Christ. This will be done by encouraging the Oakbrook Church family to develop personal relationships with those who do not know Christ, training them to share their faith, providing worship services that are seeker-sensitive and by planning church-wide outreach events to which they can bring their friends and family. Our goal is to increase our worship attendance to 300. Our goal is to increase attendance among UWO students. We intend to do this by providing transportation for UWO college students and to reach out to those who come.

Family ministry

We intend to establish a family ministry that encourages Godly marriages; assists and equips parents in the spiritual shepherding of their children; values and honors all stages of life, in order to strengthen families with God-honoring family values.

Teaching

We intend to make disciples of children, youth and adults teaching them from the Scriptures to know and love Jesus Christ, to be like Christ, to be committed to His church family, to serve God wholeheartedly and to discover and fulfill their mission in life.

Inspiring worship

We intend to provide inspiring, Spirit led praise and worship ministry that is an enthusiastic, culturally relevant blend of the contemporary and traditional styles and balances celebration and reflection and aims at life change!

Small groups

We intend to be a church of small groups where mutual support, prayer, discipleship, fellowship, pastoral care and outreach are accomplished. Our goal is for at least 75% of our church family to be involved in small groups.

Anointed preaching

We intend to provide anointed, biblically accurate, relevant preaching and teaching to impact the lives of people to help them meet life’s challenges.

Leadership development

We intend to provide Oakbrook Church with a community of Christ-centered leaders and for these leaders to be raised up from within the fellowship. We intend to help individuals at Oakbrook recognize and develop their leadership abilities by believing in them, encouraging, training and recruiting them to ’share the load’ of leadership, nurturing them with supervision in a ‘leadership community’ and providing initial and on-going training through classes, conferences, and mentoring.

World outreach

We intend to help reach the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We will challenge our church family to be “world Christians” , to be interested and involved in world missions. We intend to both send people out as missionaries and to provide financial support to enable them to go. At the minimum 10% of Oakbrook’s annual budget will be for missions and 10% of the mission’s budget will be set aside for short term missions. Our desire is for the missions ministry to be overseen by a Missions Team that stays in contact with our missionaries, keeps the church family informed about missions and our missionaries, oversees the mission’s budget, evaluates our current needs and recommends new mission fields and projects to support.

Gift-based ministry

We intend to provide motivation, training, guidance and opportunity for every member of Oakbrook to serve Christ in gift-based, team ministry.

Loving relationships

We intend to make disciples in the context of authentic, loving relationships and maintain a sense of “community”. Our goal is to develop and maintain an atmosphere of acceptance, openness and caring towards every individual at Oakbrook through various church ministries and small group activities and to expand these relationships beyond the church to the communities in which we live.
